The Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge has a rich variety of agricultural operations which contribute to our community. About one hundred families are involved in agriculture and related farm businesses. Family farms are a common sight throughout the Slate River Valley and in the Murillo area.
Dairy farming and beef operations, pork, greenhouses, pick-your-own crops, sheep, eggs, and even honey are all part of the diverse agricultural mix. Other types of agricultural related activities include: meat processing, a local cheese factory, a fertilizer mixing plant, and a soybean-roasting plant.
Many area farmers take their products to the Country Market, held Saturdays in Thunder Bay from mid-April until Christmas, and many sell their wares from their farms: Gouda cheese, beef, sausage, lamb, pork, wild boar, produce of all kinds, fresh fruit and berries in season, herbs, and preserves.
