The amount going into the pit can be reduced by recycling much of your garbage. If the pit continues to be filled at the current rate, both landfill sites will likely be closed within the next 20 years. Opening and closing costs are very expensive and the municipality will have to pay those costs through raising taxes. ITEMS THAT ARE RECYCLED DON’T FILL UP THE LANDFILL!!! Recycled items are trucked out of the landfill site for processing elsewhere. | WHAT CAN BE DONE? Reduce the amount of garbage you produce…. and Recycle what you do create…. | | ALL LANDFILL SITES ACCEPT: PAPER All paper that comes in your mailbox, newspapers, magazines, catalogues, paperback and hardcover books.
